Happy Birthday Singapore

August 10, 2007

So, Singapore celebrated her 42nd birthday.
And I’m in my generous mood. So here’s a contest.

This is a photo I took, which I consider pretty iconic and represents Singapore alot- HDB flat, with Singapore flags during National Day.

So here’s the question: How many Singapore flags can you see in the photo?

Email me (that.bottle at gmail dot com) your answer, together with your mailing address, with the subject header: National Day Contest by thebottle.
If you are first to email me with the correct number, you’ll win SGD42. :)

Click on the photo for the original size, and the contest ends 1 week from this entry’s date-stamp. This contest is open to you all residing in Singapore and Malaysia only.

THIS CONTEST IS OVER.  THANKS FOR PARTICIPATING.

Who is this Andy Ho?

August 9, 2007

I was surfing the net and I chance upon this Andy Ho, a ‘Senior’ ‘Writer’ of The Straits Times Singapore.  From what I read, it seems like he’s not a popular fella at all.

And I can see why.

His articles are really… really…. flawed.  It really makes me laugh and confirm my opinion that The Straits Times of Singapore is a useless newspaper.  I’ve stopped buying it some time back, back then due to its decision to increase in price, and after that, I realized I can live without it.  Perhaps I’m just finding more reasons to justify my ‘not-reading-the-newspaper’ stand, but those reasons are more than mere convenience.

So, do I want to buy newspapers to read flawed articles?  What for?

And why am I against this Andy Ho?  Here are some reasons:

I like this the best, simply and to-the-point: http://empty-vessels.blogspot.com/2007/05/andy-ho-synonymous-with-idiot.html

From http://www.abc.net.au/am/content/2005/s1517960.htm:

<i>LISA MILLAR: Andy Ho, a senior writer with the Straits Times, says Singapore is unfairly portrayed as a tightly controlled nation.

ANDY HO: So the freedoms are always there. I don’t think protests or dissent has been stifled at all. If people want to stand up and be counted, they are always free to do so. I sincerely think and believe and am convinced that the Government has no problem.</i>

Huh? Andy Ho, you couldn’t be more obvious than what said of you by empty-vessels.

Hahah… and this basically shows that he is afraid of being shamed.  Well, write better articles, get your priority right as a journalist, then there’s nothing to worry about: http://kwayteowman.blogspot.com/2007/01/is-it-public-shaming-isnt-it-citizen.html

Google him out.  Read his articles for a good laugh.  Don’t take the articles too seriously as it will only perhaps outrage you or cause you brain damage for reading such things from an indisputable bigot star…

p.s.  Wonder if anyone can google his face out ar?  Would certainly like ot put a face on this Andy Ho…
